Jillian Michaels’ Diet Review

You may remember her as the tough-as-nails trainer from NBC’s “The Biggest Loser.” Well, Jillian Michaels has incorporated what she teaches on the ranch into a diet program for the rest of us. is it as tough as she is?
We all like to watch “The Biggest Loser” on television and are amazed at the transformation of some of the contestants. But, you don’t have to be on television to benefit from the advice of the trainers. Jillian says that anyone can do it if they have the right tools.

Jillian bases her diet program on three principles: weight loss, behavior modification and exercise. You are what you eat and you will eat what you deem to be what you need at the time. Behavior modification is not always a part of diet programs. People are not taught to understand why they overeat and how to view food in a healthy manner. This principle is given equal footing in this diet plan because it is important for long term weight management.

She does have a book out, but people are encouraged to sign up for the online program. The online program is a paid membership with a five-week minimum. You are given lots of support as well as forums where you can ask your questions to Jillian. For an additional fee, the program offers home delivery of meals. On the flip side, you do get a free week trial to test the program out for yourself before signing up for the paid portion.

What do I do?

Here’s the basic concept: If you eat less and exercise more, you will lose weight. It is a matter of simple math. More calories out, combined with fewer calories in, means that pounds are shed from your body.

For anyone who knows Jillian, you know that exercise plays a big role in the program. Based on your answers to an initial questionnaire, your level of activity is assessed. You will be given a customized eating plan with exercise recommendations, food recommendations and how many calories you need to eat a day to lose weight in a healthy manner (one to two pounds per week).

The site gives you plenty of what you need so that you can get started right and finish well. You have access to recipes and tips for what foods to eat. Also, your eating plan will be based on whether you need more protein for fuel (fast oxidizer) or more carbohydrates (slow oxidizer). There are also recommendations for exercises that you can perform from the comfort of your own home.

If you like Jillian’s focused and challenging approach form the show, her diet plan will be an extension of that. She will help you lose weight, build muscle and learn to take charge of your eating habits.
