Let’s face it – weight loss is hard. Keeping it off is even harder. To your body, fat is energy and it really wants to hold on to that fat as a survival strategy. For most people, diet and exercise are a sure way to steadily lose weight. For other people, it takes longer and they have to work harder at it to succeed.
Try not to get weight loss tips and advice from your friends. Some of these ideas aren’t true and may not work for you. Moreover, some of the suggested tips can actually be harmful for your body. Bottom line is that you need to be the one to decide how you are going to lose weight. If you have wisely chosen the path of diet and exercise, here some tips to help you get there:
1. Avoid Junk Foods. All your weight loss efforts will do down the drain if you cannot keep yourself from eating junk and processed foods. These foods have high calorie content and will add to your pounds. You should always try to eat healthy. To make sure that you don’t give in to any temptations, make sure you have a considerable stock of raw fruits and vegetables in your house. Also make sure that you cook your own meals, so you can decide how much oil to use. Keep in mind the less oil you consume, the better for you!
2. Lots of small meals. Five or six small meals is much better for your body than one huge one. When you eat, your body takes what you need for metabolism and whatever’s left gets stored as fat. Stop eating before you get to that point and skip the fat saving step. As you eat, your metabolism will stay on an even keel and you’ll burn more fat. You will also prevent feeling hungry because another meal isn’t very far away.
3. Cutting down on calories doesn’t necessarily mean little, tiny portions. By avoiding foods that are calorie packed, you can eat more and feel full quicker with a much lower calorie intake. Your brain tells you to stop eating when your stomach feels full, not when you’ve reached a certain number of calories. Don’t completely deprive yourself of everything you love to eat, though. Adding in smaller amounts of your favorite foods will keep you from feeling deprived and help stave off a binge.
4. Make exercise a part of your day. If you’re serious about losing weight, exercise is a must have. Think about it – exercise lets you eat even more because you’re burning even more. And as you workout, your metabolic rate is increasing and this rate will stay higher even when you’re not at the gym. Also, the extra muscle you gain will burn calories at an even higher rate.
Gaining all that weight didn’t happen in a short time so it’s unrealistic to think you can get rid of it in a short time either. There is no more reliable way to lose weight than by diet and exercise. Stick with it and you’ll win the battle.
