5 Healthy Habits To Help You Quit Smoking

As an ex-smoker I remember many times when I had quit smoking for as long as 3 weeks only to go right back to it. I was always a little surprised at myself and couldn’t really explain why I went back. There was something else at work besides just the physical addiction.

The reason was that I was using the cigarettes as a way of making up for something that was lacking. The good news is that you can bring in new behaviors that will make up for the things that your are missing. Whether it’s stress release or just a signal to relax you can get cigarettes out of your life and bring in new healthy habits.

Here are some of the things you can do to de-stress and decompress instead of smoking:

1. Exercise – Somehow people get turned off this word alone. To stay healthy you need exercise at least three times a week but for some reason exercise seems like a luxury to some. Any kind of exercise will do as long as you get your heart pumping.

2. Meditation – Meditation techniques such as Tai Chi and Yoga has been proven for hundreds of years to boost energy levels and release stress.

3. Take A Hot Bath – Pamper yourself by taking a hot bath with light music and dim lights. Also, makes it hard to keep a cigarette lit when your sitting in a tub of water.

4. Reading – A good way to escape reality for a moment and to forget your problems by living vicariously.

5. Get a Massage – A great way to relax and feel the stress leaving your body.

Whatever you decide to do, make sure you have a relaxation alternative to smoking that will release stress instead of finding an excuse to go back to cigarettes. It sounds simple, but it works. Try it and you’ll be surprised how these ideas can help you on the road to be smoke-free forever.
